Frequently Asked Questions:
Why use laser to remove your tattoo?
Laser tattoo removal isn’t a new treatment but to achieve the best result the type of laser machine is important: Omega Laser Aesthetics use the Quanta Q plus that incorporates the Q-switched laser dual-wavelength technology which is considered to deliver the very best results for tattoo removal.
Other tattoo removal companies may use IPL (used in hair removal), lasers which only target black ink or limited colours or less proficient machines. These lasers may not be effective in removing the tattoo and can also burn, scar, and damage the skin which can often be worse than the tattoo itself!
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments you need is dependent on a number of factors, including the colour, saturation, age, size and location of the tattoo. Generally some colours are removed easier than others. All tattoos are different and will require varied amount of treatments to achieve the required result.
For tattoo fading, a few treatments might lighten a tattoo enough for a cover up tattoo.
The removal of the tattoo relies on the body’s lymphatic system which is key to the healing process. Tattoos on the torso will require less treatments compared to tattoos on ankles, feet and hands but this will be discussed at your consultation.
Your general health and well-being is an important factor of the removal process, drinking lots of water post treatment , having a good diet and following aftercare instructions will greatly promote the efficacy of tattoo removal by your immune system.
How much time do you leave between treatments?
Even though most people find the area heals within a couple weeks, treatments are scheduled six to eight weeks apart to allow your immune system to have sufficient time to break down the ink particles of the tattoo.
What about a Cover-up?
We have Tattoo Artists on site who can advise when the tattoo is light enough for a cover up and this will depend on what your new tattoo will be. This can save you time and money in reducing the number of laser treatments required.
What if my tattoo is new?
Your tattoo needs to be healed before a laser treatment and we recommend waiting at least two months for best results.
What colours can be removed?
Our medical-grade laser has multiple wavelengths of 1064. 694 and 532 which enables removal of all colours. While it’s important to know that certain pigments are harder to remove than others, the majority of colours can be removed including black, grey-wash, blue, green, brown and even red. Lighter colours are more difficult to remove than darker ones, with white being the most difficult but still achievable.
What pain relief can you use?
To reduce the pain we use the Zimmer Cryo cooling system to minimise discomfort during the procedure and numbing cream is available on request.
Do you do a patch test?
We offer a free patch test to determine if laser tattoo removal is appropriate for you – it also give you the opportunity to experience the sensation of the laser.
Are there any side effects to the treatment?
Overall, treatments are gentle and mild, causing only slight discomfort with minimal side effects. You may experience light swelling, redness, pinpoint bleeding, mild bruising. Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, a darkening or lightening of the skin in the area being treated, may occur depending on your skin tone, however this is usually temporary.
Can I have only part of a tattoo removed?
Yes, we are able to remove unwanted parts of a tattoo for removal or cover up purposes.
How does pricing work?
Pricing is based on size and number of treatments. You are able to pay per session and competitive packages are available at a discounted price.
What should I expect?
Everyone is unique and responds differently. Complete removal of all tattoos is possible but our specialists are able to manage your expectations at the consultation for very dark, or aged tattoo. However, you will definitely notice a dramatic lightening of the treated area. For the very best results, follow our aftercare instructions.
